Ask a long PDF specific questions without reading every page

When a PDF is too long to skim, AI Chat lets you ask concrete questions and follow page citations. It is an AI tool: extracted text is sent to a provider — the PDF file itself is not uploaded as a binary.

Privacy difference vs other tools

Merge, compress, Word to PDF and most editors run entirely in your browser. AI Chat is different: it extracts text from the PDF and sends that text to an AI provider so the model can answer. The UI tells you this before you start.

Do not use AI Chat for documents your policy forbids sharing with third-party AI. For those files, stick to local tools such as Preview, Protect or Compress.

Step by step

A careful Q&A session:

  1. 1Open AI Chat with PDF and add the document.
  2. 2Read the notice about extracted text being sent to the AI provider; continue only if that is acceptable.
  3. 3Ask a specific factual question (for example “What is the termination notice period?”).
  4. 4Open cited pages to verify the answer against the source.
  5. 5Use follow-ups for details, or switch to AI Summary if you only need a high-level brief.

Questions that work better

Specific, factual prompts work better than vague ones. Ask for a clause, a date, a number or a definition. Then check the citation — models can miss context or misread tables.

Scanned PDFs need OCR first so there is text to extract. Without selectable text, chat has little or nothing to work with.

Troubleshooting

If answers look weak:

  • No useful text: run OCR on scans, then try again.
  • Vague answer: ask a narrower question and name the section if you know it.
  • Policy concern: stop and use local-only tools instead.

Privacy and security

AI Chat sends extracted document text to an AI provider. It does not keep your PDF as a stored upload on WordToPDFHub for this flow, but the text leaves your device. Prefer local tools when that is not allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded like a normal file host?
The chat flow sends extracted text to an AI provider so the model can answer. That is different from local tools that never leave your browser. Read the on-tool notice before you start.
Is the tool really free?
Yes. The tools are free to use with no watermarks and no sign-up. Each file can be up to 200 MB; very large documents also depend on your device's memory.
Can I rely on answers without reading the PDF?
No. Always open the cited pages. Use chat to navigate, not as a substitute for checking critical clauses.
Does chat work on image-only scans?
Not until you run OCR so the PDF has selectable text to extract.
