Formats, limits and privacy
- Input: one PDF. Output: an encrypted PDF that requires the open password.
- Up to 200 MB. Password must be at least 8 characters. The file is processed in your browser and isn't uploaded to WordToPDFHub.
Good to know
- This is standard PDF encryption (AES via a browser library), not enterprise DRM or watermarking.
- Anyone with the open password can open the file and may save or share an unlocked copy.
- Permission flags (print / copy / modify) are requests to PDF readers — some apps ignore them.
- Annotating, form filling and document assembly stay off in this tool’s encryption settings.
- If you forget the password, WordToPDFHub cannot recover it. Unlock only works with a password you already know.
Questions
- Is my PDF uploaded when I protect it?
- No. Encryption runs in your browser. The file stays on your device.
- Will every PDF reader honour print and copy limits?
- No. Compliant readers may honour them, but some apps ignore permission flags once the file is open.
- Can I remove the password later?
- Yes, with Unlock PDF and the same open password. The tool does not crack unknown passwords.
- What if Protect fails on my file?
- The PDF may already be encrypted or use an unsupported feature. Try Unlock first if you know the password, or open a fresh export from the source app.
